As some of you know, I write about reclaiming life in micro-steps. When life pushes and pulls you in manic, at times cruel ways survival is the only “gear” you are in.
You find yourself in a fight or flight mode where everything is distorted - the way you eat, the way you speak with and about yourself, what you are prepared to put up with, who you allow in your inner circle, how you care for your body, sleeping patterns, how and what you do in the free time, what you disconnect from for various reasons and so much more. In a nutshell you end up existing only - metaphorically speaking - breathing through a straw and in danger of drowning at every moment.
I have seen it in others, I have experienced it on my own skin on way too many occasions.
So I write about reclaiming life in micro-steps because this is the only sustainable way of making steady and stable progress in the short and midterm, because it gives one the chance of feeling better and enjoying the journey now without waiting for an elusive time in the future.
If you think this is a linear progression, trust me it is not. This is nothing but a bumpy road and a micro step is all it takes to keep going when you are on the path of reclaiming yourself.
Where do you start? Probably everybody will have a different starting point.
For me it was / is what and how I eat as this is something under my control. When a part of me said ENOUGH a month ago I started a new journey, slowly, aiming to create new patterns, new habits.
Intermittent fasting is my choice and it came without devouring lots of books, tons of articles and watching YouTube channels. Why? Because it FELT RIGHT!
Fasting is nothing new. It has been part of humanity for eons and proved to work - it helps to detox the body, make better buying choices, encourages forward planning, reconnects one with authentic tastes, changes the relationship with sugar, declutters the cupboards 😀, but in doing so it declutters the mind as well. You see, I don t need to read articles telling me what researchers have to say as in my eyes this profession is compromised. Yes yes you will tell me … not everybody is compromised. Correct but I believe what I want to believe. Way too much research is done for the sake of researching and results are being doctored to serve one “master” or another depending on who pays for it.
Yesterday I came across an article talking about the …. dangers of intermittent fasting! Oh Lord here they come again ….another spineless individual doing his/her best to scare the ones who want to take control of their eating patterns.
Have you noticed that the tendency everywhere is to make people dependent and infantilised?
Have you noticed that one is not encouraged to use the intuition, common sense, personal experience in taking decisions!?
Have you noticed that most of the time you are encouraged to buy something in order to lose weight? Buy a bottle of pills, all sorts of powders, sophisticated meal systems or the cherry on the cake … an injection.
When we talk about weight loss the Ozempic type of solutions are not only the talk of the town but the talk of the world.
This is not something that happened in the last couple of years but for sure it was in the making, planned a tiny step at a time for a long time. Gastric band surgeries were the solutions trumpeted from all roof tops for people struggling with weight loss for decades until people realised it partially worked and the side effects were not something to be proud off.
Now it is the Ozempic fashion until the side effects are too serious and widely spread to hide and the next fashion comes along and so on.
What is at the bottom of it all!? Money, and a desire to keep people enslaved, incapable to think for themselves anymore.
Behaviour change is only promoted in the context of something to sell and seldom in the context of empowering the individual to make wiser decisions, use systems applied by our previous generations.
If you are in your 50s you might have just about had the chance to have been exposed to a completely different way of life (well I have to be careful here as I know the system in the Communist times ) when excess was nowhere to be seen, when eating patterns were in tune with the type of labour one was involved in, when eating in season was the norm, when walking was part of the daily life, when human interaction was happening naturally and the wants and needs were more in tune with each other,
I am passionate about going back to our basic, simple systems of living and my inspiration comes from the past. The last 10 years for me came with tons of challenges and I derailed from my principles. However my desire is to come back to a path of simple, sustainable, mindful living and reclaiming life in micro-steps is the system I am working on, experimenting, sharing, learning and relearning as I go along.
Until next time, be well!

Karina. WOW! I vibe with this. Especially, back to basics and fasting to go inward. Thank you for this.
