My job takes me in various parts of UK and I am enjoying this immensely. A couple of days ago I came back from 5 days in Newport. It has been my first visit to this town and I left with lovely memories. In spite of a a horrid bug, long working hours and pretty crap food I have found memories and will always go back with pleasure as I have 3 places I would like to revisit. Today I will tell you about “Nettle and bark” - a quirky, seriously uplifting and addictive plants shop with a chatty, bubbly young owner.
How amazing it is to see somebody who had a passion, a vision and who was able to make it happen.
Let’s start with the name of the shop - Nettle and bark - absolute winner - evocative, nurturing, earthy, tells stories from the first second.
Size of the shop - tiny but cozy, with gorgeous plants making me feel as if I was visiting a botanical garden in miniature. Actually this is what attracted me first - the size of the plants - one could place them in a teacup and look at them for hours and hours. For whatever reason I was thinking that I would find as fascinating watching each leaf as I would find the movement of a few fishes in a small fishtank.
Location - right at the beginning of a cosy arcade!
This was the first shop I came across during my leisurely and super slow walk around Newport in one of the stand by days when the virus was less aggressive and I was able to walk without stopping much.
All plants are carefully selected and it is my understanding that new varieties are introduced on a regular basis. I am sure I would have quite a collection if I were to live in Newport.
Moving on …. what can I say I fall in love with quite a few “little ladies” and 3 decided to join be, come back to base and also trusted I would take good care of them. Much to my delight I also received as a present a baby aloe vera plant. This is just what I wanted for a while as my aloe vera plant died a year ago. So, four little musketeers are with me, made it safely and are adapting to their new environment.
If you are around Newport do go and visit “Nettle and bark” - you will love it!
