Sometimes, when lunch time approaches I can’t wait to get out of the building, out in the sun, run to my car and drive, drive, drive. Where, I don’t know! Most of the time I don’t know. The other day, 2 minutes into my aimless driving session I noticed a shop, a new shop in the neighbourhood. I love new places especially ethnic ones so I had to stop! I had to explore!.
There is nothing like allowing intuition to come into your life even if only for a few seconds.
Finding parking is usually a nightmare on Seaside road but not this time. Lucky me! And let me tell you! The new shop is delightful! Delightful! From the outside I would have said Chinese corner shop because hey … I cannot tell the difference. It is actually a 3 weeks old Korean shop run by a friendly family, mum who speaks little English, dad who is shy and prefers to be in the shadows and a young, bright 12 year old man who is clearly the one the entire family relies on in terms of communication with the English speaking world.
Ethnic shops have so much to reveal, so much to teach a curious shopper like me. Colours, smells, gorgeous colourful packaging, unusual ingredients and stories, so many stories if one opens the mouth and … asks questions.
I went inside for the pure pleasure of seeing something new, came out wanting to go again and learn more about the family, the products, the ingredients. When I saw kiwi mochi on the shelves and I had to buy a small bag. I simply had to.
Mochi is a desert / cookie made of rice paste, and many types of filling - something I love. There are so many flavours, it comes in many sizes, delightful colours and one can even freeze them and eat as ice cream. Trust me they go so so well with a cup of coffee or tea. Try it! You can easily order on line.
So, armed with a mochi, a cup of watery coffee, a pen, a few sharpies and my “Creative musings” journal I stepped into my lunch break magical circle, sealed the imaginary boundaries and started my 20 minutes free flow drawing …. simply for the love of lines, colours, shapes and …. inviting joy …. and laughter … and hope … inviting it all back!
