Honouring your creative side - using drawing as a tool to express your feelings
Squeezing in a few minutes of intuitive drawing
What is creativity for you? A way to make a living? A way to relax at the end of a long day? A way to express your feelings, to tell your story, other stories you know about?
Is it a way to connect with your inner child or maybe a way to remove boredom and connect with other people?
Probably all of that and much more!
What if creativity is also self love?
Sometimes, at lunch time I take my journal from the bag, a black pen, a few colouring pens, earplugs, I shut my laptop, make myself a cup of tea or coffee, find a documentary on YouTube and that’s it … the circle is complete … I am in a different world and I start with a dot!
There is nothing like taking a dot for … a walk around the page, without a map, or expectations? In the office one is expected to perform no matter what! Everybody expects perfection! Well here we are … let s give ourself permission to simply draw with curiosity as a companion! Let s see what happens!
Back to my YouTube! Today I listened to a fascinating interview with Graham Hancock! You might enjoy it as well! I ve known of Graham Hancock for many years, read lots of his books, watched documentaries, interviews.. I never tire of this man! Never! To be honest, it never fails to amaze me the depts of knowledge, the adventurous life he led, the fearlessness in front of the main stream archeology, his integrity, creativity, writing , storytelling skills.
A bit of the adventurous spirit of the storyteller goes into the pen, pencil you are writing with, into the page. It infuses it with a desire to break free from the mundane, it legitimises your feelings as well.
How do you start? Start with simple patterns.
Patterns and simple shapes are the best to use when you are tired, anxious and your mind is blank. Start with a circle! You cannot make mistakes when you start with a circle I can assure you of that!
Interesting things happen on the page … this is what happened today!!
I never chose the colours, they choose me. I never use brown as this is a colour I feel uncomfortable around. Funnily enough one of my clients had the same feelings and we got to the bottom of it all in a very interesting way during a intuitive coaching session.
So, I am very uncomfortable around brown and .. what do we have on the paper? Brown. Coincidence? Not at all! The second drawing was made in a stressful, soul destroying environment. The first one, in a peaceful one.
Drawing tells stories! Your story! Have a go!
Dear Saxon Creative I found on my own skin the cathartic impact of art in the art form! It came out of the blue in my life and 20 years later I still hang on to it tightly! It keeps me process life challenges and carry on another day! I had a look at your drawings and the soul is there. I know and you know the difference of wanting to draw a … window for example for the sake of painting a window and painting … THAT window which is part of a specific story and is a trigger, symbol … thank you for your comment!
Marc! Thank you so much for sharing! Very grateful!
