Art and writing go hand in hand - 100 days of art heal and empowers continues
If you want to pick up a brush, do it, if you want to write, do it, start now
Another week on planet Earth, dear readers. How are you doing? How are you managing the curveballs life throws your way? Do you still believe in humanity? Have you ever lost faith in it?
It’s incredible how the smallest gestures of kindness can fill our hearts with so much love that it feels almost unbearable, especially when life has left its marks on us. Funny, isn’t it? These tiny acts have become my miracles—meeting people who take the time to go the extra mile, who genuinely listen and care. In a world that often feels chaotic, normality itself has become miraculous.
How do you keep moving forward, one day at a time? What keeps you grounded? Is it the gym, running, walking, writing, creating art, or gardening? What sustains you?
For me, writing is healing, and making art is as natural as breathing. Lately, I’ve discovered something profound through my writing exercises—especially when working on my autobiography. The process reveals a kind of symmetry, as though life’s circles are gradually closing. I’ve started to see the bravery, vulnerability, and resourcefulness I’ve shown in so many moments of my life.
With this realization comes a shift—tiny, almost imperceptible, like a ship changing course by just one degree. Slowly but surely, I’m beginning to view myself with more compassion. It’s a gentle transformation, but it’s there, and it changes everything.
I like to write a few words each day when I share a new piece in the Notes section. Maybe 'art' feels a bit grand, but you know what I mean.
If you feel inspired to create your own daily moments of expression, please do and feel free to share your results with me.
One of my aims is to raise awareness about the fact that artists need support to fullfill their creative missions. Creativity, like a muscle, requires persistence and dedication to thrive. Without respect and care, the journey becomes increasingly difficult for artists who have devoted their lives to their craft. Just as healing plants in the forest need gentle attention, creativity, art, and artists must be treated with care, their work valued and nurtured. Across the globe, people come home from their busy lives and turn to color, shapes, art, and design to unwind, recharge their energy, and find strength to face another day. Artists deserve the support they need to keep creating and inspiring the world around them.
Ask yourself, dear reader—how can you support an artist and the art that moves you?
Inspired by the snow …. With a touch of mixed media … because Art heals and empowers
While drawing earlier today, the idea for my next blog entry came to me!
What’s the real benefit of reading a ton of self-help books? And how is it that, until the mid to late 1990s, I had no clue this genre even existed—yet my life was perfectly fine, thank you very much?
It’s an interesting reflection, don’t you think?
Sometimes I paint, sometimes I draw, sometimes I love to explore graphic design and create motivational pieces, usually what I need to hear.
Felt the need to revisit my crazy pots and flowers theme. This one reminded me of the bird of paradise plants I saw in Capetown, a topic I will explore in one of my blogs. Words inspire drawings, drawings inspire words.
Creative writing goes hand in hand with creative drawing. It starts with a line, word, colour. A very good way to detox, calm the nerves and regain your balance
Dreamcatcher ..part of a series I loved creating! Usually they are aimed to catch the bad dreams .. I want to think about them as inviting uplifting dreams.
Here is my latest piece. It is work in progress and highly engaging.
Until next time, be well, keep writing, keep making art and remember that

I am of an age when most people do not get up at 6.00am to prepare to go to work. My active mind stopped being called upon each day over a decade ago. Over a decade later my mind is, instead, everyday, called to read (I am presently on page 304 of the 600 page Anna Karenina) to look on-line for reasons why things are happening around the world, and I still have not finished my piece de resistance, a huge huge canvas on which I am slowly painting my memories of Africa flying at 2,000 ft over the most amazing sights left on this planet. In short, I'm doing what you are suggesting for your readers, some of whom will be my age, some of whom will have extraordinary memories if they search for them, what you are suggesting changed my life for the better. And I don't need mega pounds to feel enriched. P
