Some say that “repetition is the mother of all learnings”! This is an approximate translation of a Romanian saying “Repetitia e mama invataturii”. I strongly believe in this concept because it is so so familiar to me. I wonder if my Romanian education is to be “blamed” for that. Our system of learning was based on … learning by heart. What is required in order to do this? Repetition! Over and over again. Maybe this is why I loved going to flamenco classes. One had to repeat again and again and again the steps, the movements. It felt so good. I can happily repeat a single move hundreds of times. Maybe this is why I am so comfortable studying tai chi. It is based on repetition and it is in sink with the way my mind, my soul works. I am in a safe space repeating and polishing a particular craft.
I set myself a 30 days intuitive drawing challenge! Some days I picked up the pen early in the morning, other days in the evening, sometimes during my lunch break! It always helped me learn a bit more about myself, express how I felt … because Drawing … heals!
Week 1
Intuitive drawing is a passion! One of the main benefits is that one can do this on a piece of paper the size of a stamp and also the size of a wall! One can do this everywhere….on the bus, in your lunch break, in the evening after dinner, during the meals, anytime and everywhere. The most important thing to remember is … no expectations is key and approaching everything with a sense of curiosity! Starting my own 30 days challenge! Feel free to join me! This is … Dat 1!
Day 2 intuitive drawing. Sometimes we have very little time but this doesn’t have to stop us! Simply pick up a pen and start somewhere. Here are a few steps in order to break the “terror” of a white page!
Step 1. Write a few words about the way you see yourself. Start with 3 words. For example - you are perfect 😀
Step 2. Start rounding the sharp corners
Step 3. Colour randomly! Don t think! You can limit yourself to two colours!
A bit more in depth about the process soon!
Day 3 Intuitive free flow drawings. The more one is willing to show its vulnerability in front of a white page the easier it gets to trust your hand. The hand and not the brain will guide you somewhere, wherever it needs to go in that moment! Here is my day 3 The starting point were the words “Believe in yourself!”
Day 4 it takes perseverance to show up in front of the white piece of paper with a few pens and an open mind!
Day 5 intuitive drawing and sometimes drawing on a big piece of paper feels so liberating! While adding another kind the idea of a tree of abundance came to me. Each day is different! The important thing is to pick up a pen, a piece of paper and allow your hand to move.
Day 6 and my first thoughts while moving the pen on the paper were connected to the words love yourself. My mind was trying to make sense of the words abuse in the work environment and how much it speaks about people’s values and beliefs! Drawing helps one process so much! Pick up your pen!
Day 7 Drawing early in the morning for just a few minutes is another form of meditation. It is a time to reflect, to think about the day ahead or simply to step inside a fluffy bubble and stay there for a few minutes, gathering strength!
